About the artist:

Joseph Demarais (1927-1971)  was known for his three-dimensional printmaking, color intaglio. A highly regarded printmaker whose work is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Renwick Gallery, and the U.S. Department of State. Joseph Demarais was born in 1927 in Hoboken, New Jersey. He made hundreds of prints during his brief career and pushed the limits of printmaking by using copper, zinc, masonite and acetate to achieve textural surfaces. During his seven year career as a printmaker, his three-dimensional impression created on handmade paper were exhibited in more than 100 galleries and museums in the United States and Europe.
